The History of Karenge

The water being treated at Karenge dates to the original plant built in 1978. The Karenge site is in the eastern province of Rwamagana.

The site was selected to build on the shores of Lake Mugesera, and is set to triple capacity from 15,000m3 to 45,000m3 per day.

Building a safer tomorrow

Remote is working on the early works of construction, the civil works of the Karenge Water Treatment Plant and Intake, from 2025, after which the team transitioned to the mechanical works of the offshore pipeline.

In May 2026, we began welding the DN800 stainless steel pipeline and completing multiple water-tightness readiness testing.
